Gimpanzee, the best-performed son of the modern-day trotting phenomenon Chapter Seven, will be available to New Zealand breeders this season through Dancingonmoonlight Farm via Frozen Semen.
A triple Breeders Crown winner, eight-time Group 1 victor, and unanimous US Trotter of the Year, Gimpanzee compiled a remarkable record of 25 wins from 34 starts, earning $2,792,478 with a lifetime mark of 1:50.0. He finished outside the top four just once in his career—a record of consistency and class unmatched by most stallions ever imported to New Zealand.
Pedigree with Purpose:
Gimpanzee is by Chapter Seven, a stallion who has reshaped the North American trotting landscape. Himself a Breeders Crown winner and Dan Patch Horse of the Year, Chapter Seven’s progeny earnings exceed $87 million. Among his top sons are Gimpanzee, Jujubee, Marcus Melander’s Super Chapter, Maryland and Hypnotic AM. Gimpanzee, however, remains his most complete racehorse—blessed with speed, stamina, gait, and the rare ability to transition seamlessly from half-mile tracks to grand circuit open class company.
His dam, Steamy Windows, is by Muscle Massive, winner of the Hambletonian and a direct son of Muscles Yankee, making Gimpanzee double-bred to the Muscles Yankee influence. While a modest racemare herself, Steamy Windows has become a broodmare gem, producing multiple performers including Iteration (by Chapter Seven), and cementing her place in a growing maternal family rich with speed and versatility.
Early Brilliance:
Gimpanzee’s 2-year-old season was nothing short of dominant. Undefeated in nine starts, he swept through the New York Sires Stakes circuit with victories at Monticello, Tioga Downs, Saratoga, Vernon Downs and Yonkers—no easy feat on tight turns and hard surfaces.
He then capped off the year with back-to-back Breeders Crown wins—crushing his elimination and then taking the $600,000 Final on a rain-soaked Pocono Downs track in 1:54.4, defeating the previously heralded Green Manalishi.
That performance earned him the 2018 Dan Patch 2-Year-Old Colt Trotter of the Year title.
A Relentless Three-Year-Old Campaign:
Returning at three, Gimpanzee went straight back to work, taking the $215,200 Empire Breeders Classic Final at Vernon Downs before claiming more NYSS legs at Tioga and Yonkers.
At the Meadowlands, he ran an eye-catching fourth in the Hambletonian Elimination—storming home from post 7 in 26.4 seconds for his final 400m. He drew wide again in the final (barrier 7), and reproduced the same devastating finish to grab third behind Forbidden Trade and Greenshoe in one of the deepest Hambletonian fields of the decade.
Back on familiar territory, Gimpanzee took out a NYSS leg at Batavia before obliterating Hambletonian winner Forbidden Trade in the $500,000 Yonkers Trot, trotting 1:53.3 on a half-mile track—still one of the fastest ever performances at Yonkers.
He returned to Canada for the Breeders Crown, closing in 26.0 seconds in the elimination and then defeating Greenshoe in the $500,000 Final at Woodbine Mohawk Park, stopping the clock in 1:52.3.
That season also featured a brave third in the $450,000 Kentucky Futurity, and a win in the $208,300 Matron Stakes at Dover Downs. Gimpanzee concluded his sophomore season against the elite aged trotters in the TVG Open, finishing fourth behind Six Pack and Manchego, timed in 1:50.1 with a closing split of 26.3—a testament to his ability to step up to older company.
Mature, Powerful, Peerless at Four:
If anyone thought Gimpanzee’s 3YO campaign would be hard to top, his 4-year-old season proved he had another level to give.
He reeled off five consecutive wins to start his campaign, including a sweep of the Graduate Series, taking the $250,000 Final in 1:50.2.
That was followed by a now-legendary performance in the $464,900 Hambletonian Maturity, where he drew Post 13 and still surged from the tail of the field to claim victory over 1 1/8 miles.
In the John Cashman Memorial at the Meadowlands, he laid down his career best—1:50.0 flat—to defeat Atlanta, one of the great mares of the modern era.
Later that season, he reversed the result of the Maple Leaf Trot in Canada, defeating Atlanta in the $150,000 Caesars Trotting Classic at Hoosier.
His closing campaign was punctuated by another masterclass in the Breeders Crown Elimination (1:52.0, final 400m in 26.0) and a third Breeders Crown title, becoming just the fifth horse in history to do so.
He retired sound and sharp, with earnings of nearly $2.8 million and a final legacy that matches up with the most decorated trotting stallions to have ever raced.
